Best Restaurants in York

Jamie’s Italian

Part of the famous chef’s chain of Italian restaurants, this one is on two floors of a 16th century wine cellar in the Lendal Cellars. You can dine outdoors in the Secret Garden when the weather permits. Sample the famous prawn linguine – garlicky prawns, Scottish langoustine tails, tomatoes, fennel, saffron, fresh chilli, and rocket: out of this world!

Rustique

French country cooking in a French style eatery in Castlegate (there’s another one in Lendal). Bright and cheerful with mirrors, wooden tables, and a stained glass window. As you would expect, it features a wide selection of French wines, but New World wines are also available.

Drakes Fish & Chips

Family owned and run, this is reputedly “the best fish and chips for miles around.” Serving freshly cooked traditional food and fully licensed, the staff are cheerful and welcoming. It has excellent reviews.

Nando’s

Part of the well-known chain, with comfortable padded benches and chairs. Serving Afro/Portuguese food such as a whole flame-grilled spatchcock peri-peri chicken with chargrilled veg, peri-buttered corn, fino coleslaw, and wedges of sweet potato. Mmmmmm!
