Holidaying on home turf, albeit a little forced upon us recently, has never seemed so appealing. Nor – largely as a result of the pandemic – has it been so sought after; watching a growing wave of interest sweep across the UK’s best cities and beautiful landscapes, the travel industry is racing to curate exceptional staycation experiences.

It’s not hard to see why especially from these 5 UK destinations below that will keep your itchy travel feet happy exploring at home in 2021.

1. St Michael’s Mount, Cornwall

The sister abbey to France’s Mont St-Michel, St Michael’s Mount is connected to the mainland at low-tide, and surrounded by beautiful terraced gardens.

2. The Bridge Of Sighs, Cambridge

Punting along the River Cam is essential when visiting Cambridge – and no spot is more photogenic than this Gothic Revival bridge.

3. High Force, Durham

Many of the UK’s most impressive waterfalls belong to Scotland, but High Force in Durham is more than worth a visit – with the River Tees plunging 21 meters into a deep pool below.

4. Thor’s Cave, Staffordshire

Nestled within the Manifold Valley, Thor’s Cave is one of the Peak District’s most indelible sights. Step through its 18-meter-high mouth into a network of limestone tunnels – first occupied by humans 10,000 years ago.

5. Bamburgh Castle, Northumberland

Perched dramatically above one of Britain’s loveliest beaches, the site of Grade I-listed Bamburgh Castle was originally a Celtic stronghold before the Normans built the current fortress.
